Following on from my previous article, “ single parents- and dating them”, I have added a new forum, question page, to my single parent dating web site. This is relating to the struggles/ hardships, and general attitude, that parents with children are wrongly labelled as carrying baggage. The discussion topics are for single parents to answer themselves, ( who better to come from, I here you say”, and I quite agree.
One topic that I have just added, and at the time of writing this article has only had 2 comments, but the question is a very important one, this is:- Would you tell your children, that you are dating again?
Now if you have read, my previous article, you would see that I like many hundreds of people in the UK, was a single parent, looking to join the dating scene, but when meeting people on online dating sites, I was perceived by my dates, as a man with baggage. And that is why I launched my website for people like us!
The current option from the forum is yes, (tell your children that you are dating again). As we would imagine your kids are more than likely the centre of your universe, and your life. But this does, not mean you cant have a life! Especially if you feel the need for mature, adult companionship, you can't let your children dictate your emotional needs.
Sit them down and explain to them, that while they are your life, and there importance to you, sometimes you would like to do things or go places that is exclusively for adults. And you need a partner for that. Make them realize that you would never jeopardize your relationship with them for anything in the world.
When they do accept the idea, (which in time they will), ease them into it gradually. I cannot stress this enough. Different situation of course require more effort than most, and it is usually easier if you date, a single parent too. They would better understand the demands and complications that factor into a relationship when children are involved. (even better if they have kids at the same age group as yours).
I feel this topic is an important one, and I cant do this justice alone, so I will be looking forward to the submissions on this subject by my web site members.
